Nickname(s): Dani Jo
Bio: I really owe my love of dance to my sister who was determined to make sure that I could actually dance…unlike our parents. Born and raised in Idaho, I took modern and jazz dance classes when I was very young but then didn’t get back into dancing until I was in high school. I was a cheerleader from 9th-12th grade and really enjoyed mixing the music and creating choreography for many of our dance routines.
From that point on, I knew that dance was my passion and took many different types of dance classes over the years Ballet, Belly dancing, Salsa, old school Hip-Hop. In 2010, I moved to Oregon and began taking Zumba classes. I had an amazing teacher that always made me feel inspired and I realized that I wanted to be able to do the same thing for others and become an instructor. I was very excited to become certified in Zumba and taught at several events throughout Oregon. My gym came up with a new format called Club Dance which was a hip-hop aerobics class that I absolutely fell in love with! There is just something about hip-hop music that makes you want to move.
After moving closer to Portland, I had to leave teaching Club Dance which was very hard but then luckily a new opportunity presented itself with teaching U-Jam Fitness. I have been teaching U-Jam for almost 2 years now and the word “Unity” cannot better describe this format. From day one I have been able to experience the carefree, addictive and energizing nature that one gets to experience each time they walk into a class. The atmosphere that dance radiates not only is apparent in the classroom but I’ve found it also becomes a lifestyle, a support system, and something that I could not be happier to be a part of. Even more so, I love being able to share this bliss with others and so they can walk out of the room feeling healthier and happier.
